So Exciting!

The original books by Douglas Adams:
 Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul

The Salmon of Doubt (originally a Dirk Gently book but adapted to the Hitchhiker series)

At the time of his death Douglas Adams was working on The Salmon of Doubt but he was unhappy with how it was progressing as a Dirk Gently book. Douglas Adams said of it, "A lot of the stuff which was originally in The Salmon of Doubt really wasn't working". He was still working on resolving the problems he faced with The Salmon of Doubt, namely "salvaging some of the ideas that I couldn't make work in a Dirk Gently framework and putting them in a Hitchhiker framework... and for old time's sake I may call it The Salmon of Doubt." Later, various drafts of the first ten chapters were assembled together along with a memo suggesting further plot points. These now appear in the published but not completed book The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time.
